Christ Church Bentinck School, NW1 Education Facilities
Emerson Willis Ltd was the main contractor for this interesting project in the centre of a residential square.
Discovery of an unmapped sewer in necessitated the design, fabrication and installation of two bespoke manhole chambers each weighing 8 tonnes. This additional work was completed within 4 weeks ensuring the project met its programme.
Phase one saw the construction of a reinforced concrete, two-storey extension & roof top playground, providing 9 new classrooms, 4 group rooms, new WCs on each floor and a studio hall adjoining the main hall within the existing building to create a larger communal space. A platform lift was installed to enable disabled access to all floors. Oak-veneered media walls containing Promethean Smart Boards were installed in classrooms and external works to provide a new playground area at ground level.
Phase two works to the existing building were undertaken once the first phase had been completed and handed over to the school. An extensive refurbishment of the existing hall provided a new commercial kitchen and stores. The ground floor was extensively re-modelled to create new offices and the external façade of the existing building facing Cosway Street given a new Alumasc thin coat render system and all new aluminium windows.
