The Squirrels, Romford Listed and Heritage
This detached property sits in a prominent position in the Gidea Park Conservation Area. The house was built around 1910 as part of the Exhibition Estate and so has protected status.
The house has evolved over the years, not always in sympathy with the original house or the elegant street scene.
Emerson Willis Ltd suggested a scheme to remove some interior walls to reduce the number of small Edwardian era rooms and open up the ground floor to suit a modern families need for more communal spaces.
An elegant hand made kitchen was built on-site featuring a range cooker and multi fuel stove in the dining area.
The study has been lined with bespoke paneling to match the original fireplace surround and a handmade oak bookcase to house modern media out of site.
Throughout the house the original windows have been replaced with approved hardwood, slim-line double glazed units.
Externally, a large Edwardian style summer house has been constructed with showers and a pump room to serve the new swim jet pool.
The large garden was re-landscaped with the removal of large conifers and their replacement with large specimen trees.
A hot tub has been installed discreetly hidden inside a purpose built ‘folly’.
