Tulse Hill, London Residential & Leisure
The brief for this interesting basement project in Tulse Hill, London was unusual in so far as the basement extension was a ‘new build’ in the garden of a traditional Edwardian London Town House.
The existing garage, which was actually located at the end of the neighbouring property, was demolished to make way for the L-shape apartment set over two floors. Access to the development was via a shared driveway that served four properties.
The client required simple finishes with clean lines throughout. This was achieved using minimal finishes and details.
Floors were polished concrete, with matching kitchen worktops. Flawless white painted walls with shadow gap detailing in lieu of skirtings and architraves gave a light airy feel.
Stairs and the floors on the upper level were formed in birch ply with minimalist furniture sourced to match.
The finished property, although following a very modern design and layout needed to associate with the existing house and so a new decked area was created at the rear of the property to successfully bridge the gap between the old and the new areas.
Extensive landscaping to the external areas and works to the rear of the existing house completed the project by tying them in together.
